About
Illums Bolighus was founded in 1925 under the name BO. Behind the establishment was the Danish businessman Kaj Dessau, who besides the business community also possessed a great aesthetic sense. In collaboration with Kaj Dessau's artistic consultant Brita Drewsen, he created a concept that until then was not seen anywhere in the world: Their unusual foresight and quality sense up through the 1930s have since been of great importance to the status that Danish housing culture has achieved internationally.
After the business in 1941 was taken over by the families Illum, Berg and Trock-Jansen, who also owned the department store AC Illum A / S, the place was renamed Illums Bolighus A / S. In 1961, Architect MAA Kay Kørbing designed the current building, which, with understated extravagance, appears as an extremely stylish and classic building work in the middle of the busy Amagertorv.
Illums Bolighus no longer has any form of affiliation with the department store Illum.
Today, the ownership of Illums Bolighus lies with an investment group with the CEO Henrik Ypkendanz as principal shareholder. Since his accession as director in 2001, the house has experienced positive revenue development and rising profitability. It is therefore with great satisfaction that Henrik Ypkendanz today is in charge of the successful residential building. Illums Bolighus is now also available in Sweden, Norway and Germany.
